VIP status should be used for your most important contacts.
When a contact has VIP ticked on their contact magaement screen, they will be featured at the top of your campaign reports in a special section called the VIP Support Summary. VIPs are searchable within your database too. They will also be highlighted on your dashboard homepage when they leave feedback.
